HERNDON, VA– The Democratic Asian Americans of Virginia (DAAV) is honored to endorse Mr. John Foust on his election bid as the next Congressman to represent Virginia’s 10th District in an open seat.  Virginia’s 10th is a bell weather District with a wide spectrum of demographic groups and political views – essentially rendering it a hopeful swing district and an opportunity of a generation for Democrats to win.  DAAV will offer support to the John Foust for Congress Campaign with outreach to the AAPI community and financial contributions during this election cycle.  The General Election in Virginia will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.

“I accept the nomination from DAAV and am very grateful to have their support in this campaign,” said Mr. Foust.  He has a long working relationship with Virginia’s AAPI community including delivering on commitments to support elected officials who are of AAPI descent.  In late April, the John Foust for Congress Campaign announced that every Virginia elected Korean American endorsed his race for Congress.  The Finance Director for John Foust for Congress is a Korean American and speaks fluent Korean.  Both the Finance and Political Directors have reached out and continues to work with DAAV and other activists in the AAPI community to identify issues, events, and opportunities for the campaign to engage Virginia’s AAPI community.  In early March, the John Foust for Congress Campaign was added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red to Blue” Program.

Currently, serving on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Mr. Foust represents approximately 120,000 residents in Dranesville District in Fairfax County.  He won his election in 2007 and was re-elected in 2011 with 61% of the vote and carried every precinct.  He has established a solid reputation for constituent service and working with community leaders and citizens to achieve results.  Some of his notable accomplishments include leading the efforts for full-day kindergarten and funding the widening of Rt.7 from the Loudoun County line to Tyson’s Corner.
The 10th is the 10th richest House District in the nation and rambles on from the Potomac riverside communities of McLean and Great Falls to the fusion and diverse neighborhoods of Herndon and Manassas, and scoops up the vineyards and dairy farms of the Shenandoah.  The District is home to 758,000 residents of whom 20 percent are foreign-born. Of the foreign born residents, 13 percent represent the AAPI community.  DAAV President Dewita Soeharjono encourages the AAPI community in the 10th District to become engaged in this year’s election.  “This is a once in a life time opportunity for the AAPI community in Northern Virginia to make their voices heard and to deliver an all Democratic Team to Congress.  And we can do just that with John Foust in Congress” said Ms. Soeharjono.
